This is what the Lord says: “Let not the wise man boast of his wisdom or the strong man boast of his strength or the rich man boast of his riches, but let him who boasts boast about this: that he understands and knows me, that I am the Lord, who exercises kindness, justice and righteousness on earth, for in these I delight,” declares the Lord. – Jeremiah 9:23-24
I sat and talked with Bill, a friend from high school that I had not seen in many years.
We laughed as we shared memories from years past. Bill and I were both academic achievers in high school. We graduated in the top three percent of our respective classes (he was a year behind me). We both competed on the national level in high school mock trial law competition. Bill went on to Harvard Law School and is now a successful corporate lawyer.

When we were in high school, neither of us knew Jesus Christ. We could only take pride in our academic success. As I talked with Bill, I discovered that he had also become a Christian since high school. We could now take pride in something that really mattered.
We knew Jesus Christ.
When we stand before God, He will not ask us about our college degrees or the size of our bank accounts. God will not ask us about how strong we are or how beautiful we look. He will not ask us if we were well-known. God will ask us if we know Him.
Do we understand His “kindness, justice, and righteousness”? Did we act upon our understanding by giving our life to Jesus Christ? The true value of a person is based on his relationship with the Lord.
How is your relationship with Jesus Christ?

I want it to be better. I know He’s all we really have.
