One Bible verse will probably go down as the undisputed heavyweight scripture champion of the world.
Long before YouTube, memes, or even email, John 3:16 went viral at sporting events.
For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life. – John 3:16
I sometimes wonder if John knew when he penned that iconic verse that he had a collection of words that would transform nations and generations.
The verse is quite simple yet extremely profound.
We can never go wrong when discussing the love of God.
In this post, I am going to share as many scriptures on love as possible. The hope is that by examining the truth of God’s undying love, we can bask in the glow found in the hope and strength He gives us, and build a solid foundation for our relationship with Christ.
And hope does not put us to shame, because God’s love has been poured into our hearts through the Holy Spirit who has been given to us. – Romans 5:5

God’s love is undying, everlasting and unceasing. He’ll never turn his back on us.
Psalm 136:1-3 (CEV) Praise the Lord! He is good. God’s love never fails. Praise the God of all gods. God’s love never fails. Praise the Lord of lords. God’s love never fails.
Jesus loved people others rejected-even people who rejected him. This is how God loves. – Gregory A. Boyd
I Corinthians 13:8 Love never fails. But where there are prophecies, they will cease; where there are tongues, they will be stilled; where there is knowledge, it will pass away.
God Is Love
God does not only operate in love — He is love.
I John 4:8 Whoever does not love does not know God, because God is love.
I John 4:16 And so we know and rely on the love God has for us. God is love. Whoever lives in love lives in God, and God in them.
Bible Verses About God’s Unconditional Love
There is nothing that we can do to earn God’s love. He simply loves us as a Great Father loves His children.
Rest in the fact that He loves you and has loved you before the foundation of the world! Don’t worry, no matter who you are or what you’ve done, God loves you!
Romans 5:7-8 Very rarely will anyone die for a righteous person, though for a good person someone might possibly dare to die. But God demonstrates his own love for us in this: While we were still sinners, Christ died for us.
Romans 8:38 For I am convinced that neither death nor life, neither angels nor demons, neither the present nor the future, nor any powers, neither height nor depth, nor anything else in all creation, will be able to separate us from the love of God that is in Christ Jesus our Lord.
Grace enables us to become the people we were meant to be. Many of us are tired of trying to live up to other people’s expectations. It is a relief to discover that God loves us just as we are. – Rob Rufus
Galatians 2:20 I have been crucified with Christ and I no longer live, but Christ lives in me. The life I now live in the body, I live by faith in the Son of God, who loved me and gave himself for me.
I John 4:9-10 This is how God showed his love among us: He sent his one and only Son into the world that we might live through him. This is love: not that we loved God, but that he loved us and sent his Son as an atoning sacrifice for our sins.
Ephesians 2:3-5 All of us also lived among them at one time, gratifying the cravings of our flesh and following its desires and thoughts. Like the rest, we were by nature deserving of wrath. But because of his great love for us, God, who is rich in mercy, made us alive with Christ even when we were dead in transgressions—it is by grace you have been saved.
Bible Verses About Love and Marriage
Marriage was God’s idea. There are many Bible verses on love in marriage to help us keep our vows rooted in love and grounded in Truth.
Here are a few Bible verses on marriage for your consideration.

I Corinthians 13:4-8 Love is patient, love is kind. It does not envy, it does not boast, it is not proud. It does not dishonor others, it is not self-seeking, it is not easily angered, it keeps no record of wrongs. Love does not delight in evil but rejoices with the truth. It always protects, always trusts, always hopes, always perseveres. Love never fails.
Before anybody can even come to understand or even show love to another person in a relationship is to know that God is love, which is the ultimate key to unlocks all other love. – John Franks

Song of Solomon 8:6-7 Place me like a seal over your heart, like a seal on your arm; for love is as strong as death, its jealousy unyielding as the grave. It burns like blazing fire, like a mighty flame. Many waters cannot quench love; rivers cannot sweep it away. If one were to give all the wealth of one’s house for love, it would be utterly scorned.
Romans 12:10 Be devoted to one another in love. Honor one another above yourselves.
Bible Verses About Forgiveness and Love
God, through Jesus, has forgiven all of our sins and trespasses. We must walk in love and forgive others as well.
Proverbs 10:12 Hatred stirs up strife, but love covers all sins.
Proverbs 17:9 Whoever would foster love covers over an offense.
I Peter 4:8 Above all, love each other deeply because love covers over a multitude of sins.
Ephesians 4:31-32 Get rid of all bitterness, rage and anger, brawling and slander, along with every form of malice. Be kind and compassionate to one another, forgiving each other, just as in Christ God forgave you.
Bible Verses About Loving Your Neighbor
My wife is super social. No matter where we have lived she gets to know our neighbors. I’m persuaded that God wants us to befriend our neighbors and share His love with them.
Leviticus 19:18 Do not seek revenge or bear a grudge against anyone among your people, but love your neighbor as yourself. I am the Lord.
Matthew 5:33-34 You have heard that it was said, ‘Love your neighbor and hate your enemy.’ But I tell you, love your enemies and pray for those who persecute you.
Luke 10:27 He answered, “‘Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your strength and with all your mind’; and, ‘Love your neighbor as yourself.’”
Romans 13:9 The commandments, “You shall not commit adultery,” “You shall not murder,” “You shall not steal,” “You shall not covet,” and whatever other command there may be, are summed up in this one command: “Love your neighbor as yourself.”
Romans 13:10 Love does no wrong to a neighbor; therefore love is the fulfilling of the law.

John 15:13 Greater love has no one than this, that someone lay down his life for his friends.
Romans 12:10 Love one another with brotherly affection. Outdo one another in showing honor.

Psalm 91:14 Because he has set his love upon Me, therefore I will deliver him; I will set him on high because he has known My name.
Bible Verses About Love and Obedience
Yes, God is love. He, however, is also our Lord and King. Obedience and adherence to His commandments are expected.
Our obedience leads to a closer union with Christ, and gives us strength in Him.
John 14:15 If you love me, keep my commands.
John 14:21 Whoever has my commands and keeps them is the one who loves me. The one who loves me will be loved by my Father, and I too will love them and show myself to them.
John 15:10 If you keep my commands, you will remain in my love, just as I have kept my Father’s commands and remain in his love.
I John 2:3 We know that we have come to know him if we keep his commands.
Here’s the real secret: you can fulfill the commands of the Bible better by falling in love with God than by trying to obey him. It’s not that your obedience isn’t significant or relevant; it’s simply not the center of the wheel. No, the hub of your life is your relationship with God. Your behavior and obedience radiate like spokes from the center of your life and allow you to roll forward. When you try to make your eternal behavior the hub on which you turn, you get stuck. Forward motion must be fueled by love. – Chris Hodges
I John 5:2-3 This is how we know that we love the children of God: by loving God and carrying out his commands. In fact, this is love for God: to keep his commands. And his commands are not burdensome.
1 Peter 1:22 Having purified your souls by your obedience to the truth for sincere brotherly love, love one another earnestly from a pure heart.
2 John 6 And this is love: that we walk in obedience to his commands. As you have heard from the beginning, his command is that you walk in love.
Bible Verses About Loving Correctly
It is vital that we keep our love and affection properly grounded in the Word.
There are many things that should not be loved.
Ecclesiastes 5:10 Whoever loves money never has enough; whoever loves wealth is never satisfied with their income. This too is meaningless.
Matthew 6:24 No one can serve two masters. Either you will hate the one and love the other, or you will be devoted to the one and despise the other. You cannot serve both God and money.
I Timothy 6:10 For the love of money is a root of all kinds of evil. Some people, eager for money, have wandered from the faith and pierced themselves with many griefs.
I John 2:15-17 Do not love the world or anything in the world. If anyone loves the world, love for the Father is not in them. For everything in the world—the lust of the flesh, the lust of the eyes, and the pride of life—comes not from the Father but from the world. The world and its desires pass away, but whoever does the will of God lives forever.
Hebrews 13:5 Keep your lives free from the love of money and be content with what you have, because God has said, “Never will I leave you; never will I forsake you.”
God’s Love Is Powerful
God’s love is powerful and casts out fear.

How great is God’s love for us that He sent His only son Jesus, to pay for the sins of mankind, he came to save us all, and paid a heavy price with your precious blood. – Alberlin Torres
2 Timothy 1:7 For God has not given us a spirit of fear, but of power and of love and of a sound mind.
I John 4:18 There is no fear in love; but perfect love casts out fear because fear involves torment. But he who fears has not been made perfect in love.
Bible Verses About God’s Steadfast Love
I Kings 8:23 And said, Lord, the God of Israel, there is no God like you in heaven above or on earth below—you who keep your covenant of love with your servants who continue wholeheartedly in your way.
Psalm 103:11 For as high as the heavens are above the earth, so great is his love for those who fear him; as far as the east is from the west, so far has he removed our transgressions from us.
Zephaniah 3:17 The Lord your God is with you, the Mighty Warrior who saves. He will take great delight in you; in his love, he will no longer rebuke you, but will rejoice over you with singing.
Bible Verses About Loving God
I’ve just been reminded of a song we sang in my childhood:
“I keep falling in love with Him, over and over, and over, again. He gets sweeter and sweeter as the days go by, Oh what a love between my Lord and I. I keep falling in love with Him over and over again.” – Lanny Wolfe
Deuteronomy 6:5 Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your strength.
Revelation 2:2-4 I know your works, your toil and your patient endurance, and how you cannot bear with those who are evil, but have tested those who call themselves apostles and are not, and found them to be false. I know you are enduring patiently and bearing up for my name’s sake, and you have not grown weary. But I have this against you, that you have abandoned the love you had at first.
Loving Like God
From Genesis to Revelation and everywhere in between love is reflected. God is love. He loved us so much that He gave everything to us.
He also has poured out His love in our hearts and is empowering us to walk in His love.
Take some time and review these love scriptures and see how they can be implemented in your daily life.

David Bean says
Tim Kiser: It is amazing that people talk a lot about “God” on the internet but no one knows the name, Elohym, that was given in the first sentence of the Bible/Torah. This is God’s only name. There are over 1 billion gods in the world and not a single Christian (2.5 billion people) knows Elohym. Here is Genesis 1:1 from Hebrew:
In beginning Elohym (Elohim) created the heavens and the earth.
Elohym did 30 acts in Chapter 1 of Genesis and no one knows it, other than Jews who read Hebrew. Is ignorance an excuse for not telling the “whole” truth? Also, Genesis 1:27 Elohym says that They are male and female (not a trinity of 3 males). I”ve tried informing Christians about Elohym and they think by rejecting the information that it doesn’t exist. Or they think by saying Elohym isn’t a name, that their lie will eliminate the sentence. Would you say you are an honest person and provide the truth. Try researching Genesis 1:1.
Steve j says
Elohim is a spirit being different from a human being. Human beings are male and female, God is the trinitarian creator who created both humans and Elohim that include angels, arch-angels, and fallen angels. I commend you for your research and would suggest examining how the Septuagint.
